Privacy Policy of the raisin Platform

The raisin platform, a product of A.K.A. New Media Inc. (AKA), is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information collected on its system which consists of various types of constituent data within our Client’s account (the 'Licensee') including: donors, participants and other stakeholders.  

We respect our Client’s right to ownership of content created or stored by our clients. The Service agreement between the Licensee and AKA does not grant raisin the license to use, reproduce, adapt, modify, publish or distribute the content created or stored for raisin’s commercial, marketing or any similar purpose, except for i) Nonidentifiable summary and transaction details which raisin may use and share with the greater nonprofit community, media, and interested third parties and ii) raisin’s permission to access, copy, distribute, store, transmit, reformat, publicly display and publicly perform the content of accounts on raisin as required for the purpose of providing the Service and supporting the Service to Licensees through email, chat, telephone, or any other communication means.

AKA has taken the necessary actions to ensure that information stored in the database is protected so that the relationship of trust between the constituent, the Foundation and AKA is upheld.

Guiding Principle 

AKA and the Licensees of raisin are committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information of its constituents (employees, donors and other stakeholders). 

AKA’s Privacy Policy for raisin serves to outline the rules for the collection, use, disclosure and retention of personal information. Licensees are responsible for ensuring their own Privacy Policy based on ten (10) internationally recognized privacy principles and publicly published and available as part of their fundraising campaigns.

1. Accountability for Personal Information.
AKA has a Privacy Officer who is accountable for the compliance with its Privacy Policy and acts as the primary contact person on information privacy and security matters. The Privacy Officer reports directly to the CEO. Privacy inquires can be made at: 416-323-1981 or optout@akanewmedia.com.

The Privacy Officer has established a cross-departmental Privacy Committee that meets on an ongoing basis to discuss privacy issues as they occur and overall security of the application in protect privacy of any information stored in the database or accessed by employees supporting the application.

The Privacy Officer will conduct privacy audits and privacy training on a regular basis to ensure that practices conform to AKA’s Privacy Policy.

A Privacy Impact Assessment is required for the creation of new personal information entities created in the raisin platform and for significant changes to the existing raisin platform to identify potential risks for privacy.

2. Identifying Purposes for the Collection of Personal Information.
The purpose of the raisin platform is to support fundraising initiatives of the Licensee by means of forms which collect donor or participant information. When the Licensee collects personal information directly from its constituents, the Licensee will identify the purposes for which personal information is collected at or before the time of collection. These purposes include: donor recruitment, issuing of tax receipt, registration for a fundraising event, that which is necessary for the administration of a donor’s interests and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

3. Obtaining Consent for the Collection, Use or Disclosure of Personal Information.
The knowledge and consent of a person is required for the direct collection, use or disclosure of personal information except where mandated by law.

4. Limiting Collection of Personal Information.
The Licensee will limit the collection of personal information to that which is necessary for the purposes identified. Information will be collected by fair and lawful means.

5. Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention of Personal Information.
Personal information will not be used or disclosed for purposes other than those for which it was collected, except with the consent of the person or as required by law. Personal information will be retained only as long as necessary for the fulfillment of those purposes.

Raisin does not trade, rent or sell any personal information to third parties. The Licensee’s web pages on raisin contains online forms that allow visitors to donate or register for a fundraising event. The personal and credit card information provided on these forms is used only to process these donations or registrations. Online donations to the Foundation/Charity are processed through a third party. The security and privacy policies of this third party are available by clicking on the “Security and Privacy” icon on the online donation form.


6. Ensuring Accuracy of Personal Information.
The Licensee is responsible for ensuring personal information is accurate, complete and as up-to-date as necessary for the purposes for which it is to be used. To change or modify any personal information previously provided to the Licensee, please see the Privacy Policy of the Licensee. Should AKA be contacted directly by constituents to have data removed from the raisin platform using our email optout@akanewmedia.com,  the constituent will be directed to the Privacy Officer of the Licensee as the data ownership lays with the Licensee of the account and they must be notified to remove data from raisin account and other systems to which constituent's personal information may be residing on outside of raisin.

7. Ensuring Safeguards for Personal Information.
Personal information is protected with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. All AKA’s employees and directors must sign a Confidentiality Agreement. In addition, all independent contractors or vendors, that have a working relationship with AKA must sign a Confidentiality Agreement. Licensee must also agree to raisin Terms of Service as part of their contract which outlines User Obligations, Ownership, Personal Information and Privacy, Data Ownership, Confidentiality, Limited Liability and Indemnification Terms.   

8. Openness Concerning Policies and Practices.
AKA’s Company Privacy Policy is available to view on its website at www.akanewmedia.com at the bottom of each screen.

9. Access to Personal Information.
Upon request, a person will be informed of the existence, use, and disclosure of personal information of the person and shall be given access to that information. A person can challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information and have it amended as appropriate. To request this information, please contact the Privacy Officer of the charity or foundation. Should you contact raisin directly, we will be required to engage the Privacy Officer of the organization where your data resides on raisin.
